Gingerbread Syrup

We looked online and combined several recipes and tweaked them to create this recipe. It works well in Gingerbread Old Fashions and Gingerbread Martinis.

INGREDIENTS:

  • ¼ cup brown sugar (lightly packed )
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup water
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon or 1 cinnamon stick.
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
  • zest of 1/2 orange
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. In a medium size saucepan, combine everything but the vanilla.
  2. Heat over medium heat, stirring until combined.
  3. Bring to a slow boil, reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes – stirring occasionally.
  4. Remove from the heat and let it cool slightly.
  5. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  6. Let cool before using.
